The Academy is known for our dinosaurs, but what happens when we combine dinosaurs with drinks and dance? The Academy hosts a monthly Dinos After Dark, which includes Dino Drafts: The Academy Beer Garden (located inside or outside, weather dependent), plus pay-what-you-wish evening admission (4 to 8 p.m.), family friendly activities and often a featured performer or guest.
Ballet X Performs
On Tuesday, July 17, Philadelphia’s premier contemporary ballet company, BalletX, wowed Dinos After Dark attendees with pop up performances. On this rainy evening, they set up their stage on the floor of the Academy’s historic Library Reading Room. Their performance included two duets, “Fancy Me” and “Requiem,” and seven dancers performed the intricate ballet “Schachmatt.”
The Dream Team
Meet the Dream Team of third- and fourth-grade dancers from Philadelphia public schools: Chester A. Arthur, Bache-Martin and Albert M. Greenfield. The students are part of a pilot program designed to take BalletX’s in-school dance classes to the next level by providing performance opportunities for promising students with an advanced understanding and passion for dance.
Dino Drafts: The Academy Beer Garden
Run by the Academy’s exclusive caterer, 12th St Catering, Dino Drafts: The Academy Beer Garden took place in Dinosaur Hall due to passing storms on Tuesday, July 17. After filling up on food and drinks (including featured beer from Flying Fish Brewery), attendees visited the special exhibit, Xtreme Bugs, as well as the Fossil Prep Lab, tropical butterfly exhibit and dioramas. Activities included a Dino Puppet Workshop and live animal shows!
