Happy holidays from the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University!
Are you still working on your holiday shopping? As Academy staffers, we almost always start our shopping in the Academy’s Gift Shop.
The Academy Shop has gifts for everyone on your list…but if you’re like us, you will be lucky to get out of there without buying something for yourself! You will find a wide selection of gifts, including fun and educational toys, books, and games for kids; paper products; science books; drinkware; and many, many other unique gifts for your friends and family.
My favorite gifts for little kids are the Dinosaur Slippers. I gave them to my nephew for his birthday one year and he loved them! Not only does he wear his dino slippers everywhere, but they’ve made it into two of his Halloween costumes. I’m not sure if he was a big fan of dinosaurs before he got these, but he definitely is now!

Giant Rubber Dinos
Last year, these were Christmas gifts to all the kiddos I know. My daughter’s dinosaur never left her side. Charlie the Triceratops even had breakfast with her after all the presents were opened.

Classy dinosaur ties are not that common to buy! (Believe me, I’ve looked.) I am excited to get this for my husband. He is a teacher and the kids love his ties. He will use it to get them excited about dinosaurs!

Dinosaur Raincoat
I like the adorable toddler-size dinosaur raincoat. It comes in olive green and has two dinosaur pockets and a hood. The killer cute is the orange spikes that jut up from each shoulder. And on the back is what looks like a pterodactyl soaring over an erupting volcano! Did I mention there’s a matching umbrella?

I recommend the Game of Bones t-shirt. It’s a sure-fire conversation starter at your next soiree!

Epiphytes
I’m fascinated by epiphytes, which are plants that peacefully grow on other plants gathering nutrients from the air and rainwater. Sometimes, in nature, there are whole ecosystems inside them. I also find them quite beautiful, so I enjoy having them at home and giving them away as gifts. Because they don’t need to be planted in soil, there are endless ways to display them.

Dynasty of Dinosaurs Coloring Book
Coloring is relaxing, especially after a busy day of work. This year, I am buying myself and my friends copies of A Dynasty of Dinosaurs, a coloring book by Academy Dinosaur Hall Manager and Paleo-Illustrator Jason Poole and Jason Schein of the New Jersey State Museum!
